Education Mini-Groups for Family Caregivers

Small (6-8 people), time-limited groups meet in the quiet, relaxed atmosphere of the Clyde Avenue office to share support and learn about the emotional impacts of illness and caregiving.

A variety of learning aids are used:

  • stories
  • videos
  • readings
  • exercises
  • group discussions
  • mini lectures

You may participate as much or as little as you wish during each session.

Groups

After the Diagnosis
Focuses on the first months after your loved one's diagnosis. Topics include:

  • selfcare
  • dealing with difficult feelings and decisions
  • coping with change
  • communicating with loved ones and professionals
  • helping your children

I'm Paddling As Fast As I Can
Focuses on the months and years after the initial diagnosis. Topics include:

  • continuing selfcare
  • the impact of illness on relationships
  • loss and grief
  • living with uncertainty
  • dealing with anger, guilt and loneliness
  • humour as a stress release
  • gifts on the journey

Light in the Darkness
Focuses on caregiving at the end of life. Topics include:

  • reinforcement of selfcare
  • loss and grief
  • unfinished business
  • living in the moment
  • near death awareness
  • recovery from lengthy caregiving
